Birmingham Heritage Week

Birmingham Heritage Week

Heritage Open Day

Welcome to England’s largest festival of history and culture!

Annual festival of people, places and community is open for registrations

England’s largest festival of history and culture will return in September and this year, support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery means as well as experiencing local events, visitors can participate in activities much further afield and see even more hidden places. For the first time, the Heritage Open Days (HODs) programme will comprise a mix of in-person and digital events; communities will be able to celebrate the stories of the places and spaces that are important to them while staying safe and adhering to current social distancing measures.

Birmingham Heritage Week

Every September some 46,000 volunteers across England organise 5,500 events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture. It's your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are FREE to explore.

Birmingham Heritage Week is a city-wide festival that celebrates Birmingham’s rich and diverse heritage. Every time the festival runs, in the region of 70 partner organisations come together to organise well over 100 events, ranging from exhibitions and tours to open days and concerts. For the first time, this year’s programme will include virtual events. Birmingham Heritage Week is a great excuse to explore Birmingham and find out more about this great city.

#BHeritageWeek is coordinated by Birmingham Museums Trust.

Eleven days of varied and fascinating events, from displays, walks and talks to open days. This year we invite you, for the first time, to explore Birmingham’s heritage through virtual events as well as in person visits. You can test your Birmingham knowledge with our Brummie Quiz and take the post box challenge; what do you know about your local postbox?

We hope you enjoy discovering Birmingham’s history and heritage, in person or from the comfort of your home.
