Ricoh Arena two-day drive-in event

Stars from the hit BBC Three show RuPaul’s Drag Race are among those appearing at a drive-in extravaganza at Ricoh Arena.

The Parking Lot Social’s Easter Breakout is taking place at Ricoh Arena on Monday 12 April and Tuesday 13 April with a series of separate drive-in events ranging from a children’s party, movie screenings, a pantomime, and drag shows.

It will be one of the first outdoor events to take place after Stage 2 of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown comes into force - which permits drive-in events.

Cast from RuPaul’s Drag Race will be headlining both dates at the Ricoh as part of the DriveTime Drag Tour, including season one alumni Baga Chipz, Divina De Campo, Vinegar Strokes and Gothy Kendoll, with current season two queens Ginny Lemon, Ellie Diamond and Tayce also confirmed.

The festival will open on 12 April with a children’s party that will feature 90 minutes of immersive fun featuring a silent disco, car-a-oke, an interactive quiz and party bingo.

Other events on the day include separate movie screenings of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Deadpool, before rounding off with the first of two DriveTime Drag Tours.

Day two has three separate events and kicks off with a pantomime performance of family favourite The Wizard of Oz, followed by a movie screening of The Greatest Showman, and one final performance of DriveTime Drag Tour.

The Parking Lot Social’s Easter Breakout will be the third large-scale drive-in event hosted at Ricoh Arena in a matter of months after successfully hosting similar events last Christmas.

Paul Michael, commercial director at Ricoh Arena, said: “The last drive-in festival we hosted at Christmas really captured the imaginations of families across the region, so we are delighted to be able to bring this type of event back once more.

“Even though we can’t attend events as we normally would do, our team has been exploring ways in which we can enable families to carry on creating memories together in a safe manner, and The Parking Lot Social’s Easter Breakout enables us to do just that.

“This festival is kickstarting what is set to be an exciting 18 months for the venue. Not only will we be playing our part in supporting Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture from May, but we are also gearing up to host a Rugby League World Cup game in October, as well as the Commonwealth Games next summer.”

Safety is at the heart of The Parking Lot Social’s Easter Breakout, and audiences take part in the immersive, interactive shows from their own cars.
