Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Lichfield Street, WOLVERHAMPTON, West Midlands, WV1 1DU
Tim Mara

About

This exhibition brings together a  selection of works by the Irish printmaker Tim Mara, featuring  artworks from Wolverhampton Art  Gallery's collection alongside loans from his family and Advanced Graphics London.

Mara studied at Wolverhampton Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art, London in the 1970s and later became Head of Printmaking at the RCA in 1990. His prints are heavily populated with details, colour and patterns; they are crammed with visual clues that seem to lead to possible narratives and plots.

His work has been wrongly associated with Pop Art due to the use of saturated colours and everyday objects as subject matter. However, Mara cites instead Velazquez and Vermeer as much more direct references.
