Rugby is a town steeped in history with rich sporting heritage, a fine literary legacy and a place of scientific discovery.

Stand at the Birthplace of Rugby Football at Rugby School, where, in 1823 pupil William Webb Ellis famously caught a football and ran with it. Learn about the history and development of the game at the World Rugby Hall of Fame.

The preeminent school also had Charles Dodgson - better known under his pen name Lewis Carroll of 'Alice in Wonderland' - Salman Rushdie of 'The Satanic Verses' and the famous war poet Rupert Brooke as pupils.

Many pioneering scientific and engineering breakthroughs were made in the town including the jet engine, the discovery of helium and holography.
